Allred: UTD to Receive $3.3 Million Federal Grant for Ongoing High Tech Wind Energy Research

Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) today commended the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) for earning a $3.3 million research grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). The grant will be used to support UTD's ongoing research to develop technology around offshore wind turbine systems.

"Texans continue to show national leadership in developing the next generation of wind technology, and UTD's work will position our region to reap the benefits of the jobs that go along with it," said Allred. "I thank UTD for their continued commitment to projects like this. As we look to our recovery after this crisis, it is more important than ever that we support programs like ARPA-E, which provide critical funding to our universities to develop new clean energy technology."

Allred is also a cosponsor of the bipartisan ARPA-E Reauthorization Act of 2019, which is led by Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX-30), Chairwoman of the House Science, Technology And Space Committee.

The grant was issued as part of ARPA-E's Atlantis program, which supports technology development for floating offshore wind turbines.
